Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly (RCFEs), also known as assisted living or board and care homes, provide housing, personal care, and 24-hour supervision for older adults who need assistance with daily activities but do not require skilled nursing care.
Who May Qualify?
Individuals generally may qualify if they:
- Are 60 years of age or older (some facilities may accept younger adults with qualifying conditions).
- Need assistance with activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, grooming, or medication management.
- Can safely live in a non-medical residential setting.
- Do not require continuous skilled nursing or hospital-level care.
- Meet the admission criteria of the selected RCFE.
Services May Include
- Private or shared accommodations
- Assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs)
- Medication management
- Three nutritious meals and snacks daily
- Housekeeping and laundry services
- Social and recreational activities
- 24-hour supervision and emergency response
- Coordination with healthcare providers and hospice services, when appropriate
