Helping eligible individuals access California's Assisted Living Waiver Program.
The Assisted Living Waiver (ALW) is a California Medi-Cal program that helps eligible seniors and adults with disabilities receive assisted living or board and care services instead of living in or moving to a nursing facility. The goal is to support individuals in living safely in a community setting while receiving the care they need.
Who May Qualify?
Applicants generally must:
- Be 21 years and over.
- Have full-scope Medi-Cal.
- Reside in or be willing to move to a county where the ALW program is available.
- Require a nursing facility level of care but be able to live safely in an assisted living or RCFE setting.
- Be willing to live in a participating ALW-approved facility.
- Meet the program’s medical and financial eligibility requirements.
Services May Include
- Assistance with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, grooming, etc.)
- Medication management
- Personal care and supervision
- Care coordination
- Social and recreational activities
- 24-hour staff support in an approved assisted living community
